MTG Standard Tournament 4-28-10
Once again Jund wins. Apparently Eldrazi changed nothing. Congratulations to Jordan Paxton for taking 1st Pace. Semi-congratulations to Jerry Jong for taking 2nd place. Thanks to everyone else who took lower places.

Standard Tournament 4-21-10
If one had a dead cat and one was to swing said dead cat at one of these standard tournaments, it's rather likely one would hit somebody playing a Jund deck with the dead cat. Meow. Perhaps with Eldrazi being legal for next week, the number o' Jund decks will start to drop off. We shall see. New player (to Game Den's standard tournaments) Tim Bentkowski ran the gauntlet and was the only player to finish a perfect 5-0 to win the tournament--with a Jund deck!!! Other top finishers included: 2nd-Colin McClintock 3rd-Josh Snow 4th Shawn Meyer 5th Nathan Wright Thanks to all who played. No thanks to all who didn't. The End.

Rise of Eldrazi Pre-release 4-18-10
Game Den's Sunday pre-release had 32 contestants. What a beautiful 5-round event it was. Shady Badran and Zachary Kuehnl drew in round 5 to finish 4-0-1 each and take the top two prizes. Other top finishers: 3rd-Edwin Ivanauskas (aka Mr. I) 4th-Allen Doong 5th-Adam Westwood 6th-Jordan Anderson 7th- Jeff Bennett 8th- Evan Bradley I must state that I now see Eldrazi spawn in my sleep. And don't forget, this coming Saturday, April 24th at 11:00 a.m. we'll do the same thing all over again only this time we call it the "Release Event."

Rise of Eldrazi Pre-release 4-17-10
As of Friday night at closing, thirty people had pre-registered for the Rise of Eldrazi Pre-release. Between Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., sixty two more personages registered making Game Den's pre-release a robust seven round event. Why anybody would play anywhere else I'll never know. Saturday morning I purchased two heavy duty air freshening devices to combat the miasma emanating from the unbathed, odoriferous contestants. The tournament was run without a hitch. It was a spiritual experience for everyone involved. Competitors feverishly opened packs and an occasional woohoo! was heard indicating a Gideon or some other piggish-good card was found. A full box of 36 packs of Rise of Eldrazi was to be awarded to first place adding to the fun and excitement. I personally almost wet myself and I wasn't even playing. Nathan Elkins and Jacob Johnson showed much skill in going 6-0 and then drawing in round 7 to take the top two places. Other top finishers: 3rd-Ryan Phillips 4th- Bryan Hawley 5th-Jeffrey Wharton (he drove 6 hours from Casper, Wyoming) 6th-Travis Clark 7th-Bill Iverson 8th-Jeff McHenry And now a word or two for those of you who choose to play at other pre-releases. Time to be a big boy or a big girl and play with the men and women. Playing at places because of inferior competition is WEAK and LAME and a few other things I darest not write here. See you all for M11.

Standard MTG Tournament 4-7-10
Josh Snow ran the gauntlet again, going undefeated 5-0 to win the tournament. His Blue/White control deck has proven very difficult to beat the past few weeks. Jordan Paxton with his Jund deck took 2nd. Adam Westwood suffered yet another ignominious defeat at the hands of Cameron Fazzio. It was most lugubrious indeed. With his victory Cameron finished in 3rd place. 4th-Chris Walthers 5th-Josh Jensen Othern: Shawn Meyer, Gabe Meyer, Jeremy Hansen, Nathan Wright, Randy Fullmer, Jerry Jong, Jeff McHenry, Alberto Aranda, James Kelly, Joshua Gravitt, Jamie Chapman, Joel Condit, Anthony Covert. Thanks to all who participated. It was marvelous having so many new players.

Standard MTG Tournament 3-31-10
Valley Fair Mall informed me the day of this tournament that the power would be shut off in the mall at 10 p.m. thereby forcing this tournament to be done in a hell-fire rush. Nevertheless, 17 noble MTG warriors fought like female sea turtles for a prime spot of beach on which to deposit their eggs in this event. Josh Snow playing Blue/White control finished with a perfect 4-0 record to win first place. Jordan Paxton playing Jund (imagine that) took 2nd on tiebreakers. Joel Condit came in 3rd. Other participants in no special order: David Nevarez Ryan Sherman Skylar Sherman Josh Jensen Andy Sartor Jeremy Hansen David Hoague Jerry Jong Brandon Podgorski Jeff McHenry Cameron Fazzio Jared Christensen Dave Evans Anthony Covert. Thanks to all who participated. Your comments and suggestions are probably welcome.
