  • Yu-gi-oh Tournament 8-21-10

Woo and hoo boy!  It was crowded like a fish market in Bejing  at the Den on Saturday.  An astounding 55 players participated in this thrilling Yu-gi-oh extravaganza.  And somehow Konami thinks some podunk store in podunk Orem, Utah is the place that Regionals should be held.  What a joke.  Game Den is where the action is for Yu-gi-oh in Utah. Once again allow me to give a reminder:  If you're going to be late, please call the Game Den at 801 969-0074 and let me know, for once I start the tournament, I cannot add any new players due to Konami's online program restrictions. • Yu-gi-oh Duelist Revolution Sneak Peek

A crowd of ravenous Yu-gi-oh-ers were yelping outside the gate in eager anticipation of my lifting it at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7th.  Only a few minor injuries were suffered as they stampeded into the store when the gate rose.  All players sought the awesome Duelist Revolution play mat as well as the new packs. To win a mat, it was necessary to roll a very high number on a 20-sided die.  Leo N. rolled a one.  One is the very lowest number on the die.  When you roll a one, it basically means you lose, loser. It is impossible to roll lower than a one, and Leo rolled a one.  How very sad.  Fortunately I had a hanky handy or a handy hanky whichever you prefer. A regular $5 entry Yu-gi-oh tournament was also run.  Exactly 32 players signed up and played therein.  Many of the powerful players did not participate leaving the door wide open for players who normally don't win. Jacky H won being the only player to go 5-0.  Doug S took 2nd. Some dudes came from Wyoming.  How exciting! The first person to correctly answer the following question will win a free entry to the $5 Yu-gi-oh tournament on Saturday August 14th:  What year did Game Den open for business in Valley Fair Mall?  Good luck!

  • MTG Standard Tournament 8-4-10

It was hot;  hot like a bus rider's breath emanating from the back seat.  It was humid; humid like the steam room at the local gym with a bunch of sweating fatties therein wearing nothing but their skin.  It was smelly; smelly like the dumpster behind the local taco joint one day prior to garbage day--this was due to many of you being unfamiliar with showering and deodorant. Even so, a lot o' people came, 31 to be exact, biggest turn out ever at Game Den for a Wednesday Night Standard tournament.  Josh Jensen bested the field and was the only player to go 5-0 defeating Game Den employee Marc Allen in round 5.  I am Marc's boss.  He is my employee.  Josh played a bant deck full of Jace and Gid.  Marc played a Black/Red deck full of black and red cards. I very much like the South Park episode that makes fun of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.  I'm not sure how that is relevant to this tournament, but I do what I want. Noticeable by his absence was The Legend, Adam Westwood. 1st  Josh Jensen 2nd Bryan Hawley 3rd Marc Allen 4th Jeff McHenry 5th Shawn Meyer Thanks to everyone.  The robust turnout was very delicious.

  • Yu-gi-oh Tournament 8-3-10

It is very important that you call Game Den at 801 969-0074 if you're going to be late for a Yu-gi-oh tournament.  Konami's online tournament system Game Den uses does not allow for late registrations.  Once the "confirm" button is pushed, that's it--no new players can be added. Arman has an Archlord Krystya that he wants to trade to me, but I don't want it.  Arman can make very realistic little girl poses--it is a talent worthy of an America's Got Talent appearance.  Arman has a foul, potty mouth.  I told Arman that I would break his scrawny neck if he banged on my Duel Terminal. Sneak peak for The Duelist Revolution is this Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. And there was much rejoicing. Cussing about tie breakers is unbecoming.  I can't do anything about it.  You can't do anything about it.  It's like rain.  It just is the way it is. Tonight's tournament went like thus: Round One Arman F won Travis W. Leo N. won Enny H Taylor B won Christdjian B Brady P won Fred G Francisco M won Enoch S Abel G won Marcus G Philipp H won Jacky H Nestor G won Aaron B Demetrio N won Carlos R Julio M won Juan V won Ben H won Victor N won Round Two Julio M won Marcus G Aaron B won  Christdjin B. The first to respond to the following question correctly in a post will win a free entry to this Saturdays, 8-7-10, $5 Yu-gi-oh tournament.  What is Kirk's favorite animal?

  • Yu-gi-oh Tournament 7-31-10

Another find group of  Yu-gi-oh playing specimens showed up for Game Den's Saturday Yu-gi-oh tournament.  Many intense duels were waged before a winner was determined.   This week, in a mild upset, Taylor B. won the tournament being the only player to go a perfect 5-0. Top Ten 1st Taylor B. 2nd David W. 3rd JJ K 4th Cody C 5th Ben H. 6th Rudy B 7th Colton C. 8th Enoch S. 9th Arman F 10th Demetrio N Thanks to all 30 participants.  By the way, Game Den is the best place to play Yu-gi-oh.

  • FNM Standard Tournament 7-30-10

Tonight I learned the difference between a pack and a #$!#ing pack. Chris Walthers won this tournament going undefeated at 4-0. THE END

  • MTG Standard Tournament 7-28-10

Don't be deceived by his outwardly friendly demeanor and his all-American pretty boy next door looks.  Game Den employee, Marc, will make you think all is well, but before you know it, you're slaughtered.  I mean, dude, he will rip your lips off and disembowel  you with his (huge?) teeth  yet all the while maintaining a convivial smile.  His MTG game is like his biceps:  powerful sturdy.  Some say he developed much of his MTG prowess from playing MTG with "The Legend"  aka Adam Westwood.   Regardless, I might have to hang a sign in the back room that says, "Beware of the Pig." So it seems Marc won this one being the only personage to go undefeated at 5-0.  Marc defeated Shawn Meyer in round 5 in the battle of the undefeated in a hotly contested match.   This makes consecutive weeks that Game Den employees have won Game Den's Wednesday night MTG tournament.  The Legend won last week. Thank you to everybody who participated.
