Once again allow me to give a reminder: If you’re going to be late, please call the Game Den at 801 969-0074 and let me know, for once I start the tournament, I cannot add any new players due to Konami’s online program restrictions.

A crowd of ravenous Yu-gi-oh-ers were yelping outside the gate in eager anticipation of my lifting it at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7th. Only a few minor injuries were suffered as they stampeded into the store when the gate rose. All players sought the awesome Duelist Revolution play mat as well as the new packs.

To win a mat, it was necessary to roll a very high number on a 20-sided die. Leo N. rolled a one. One is the very lowest number on the die. When you roll a one, it basically means you lose, loser. It is impossible to roll lower than a one, and Leo rolled a one. How very sad. Fortunately I had a hanky handy or a handy hanky whichever you prefer.

A regular $5 entry Yu-gi-oh tournament was also run. Exactly 32 players signed up and played therein. Many of the powerful players did not participate leaving the door wide open for players who normally don’t win.
Jacky H won being the only player to go 5-0. Doug S took 2nd.

Some dudes came from Wyoming. How exciting!

After the tournament Leo N. chose some lovely metallic blue KMC sleeves for his prize. Then he switched to silver. Then he switched to white. Indecision is a terrible thing. Let it not creep into your mind lest ye become befuddled in all things simple or not.

Arman F badly wanted to trade for a Naturia Beast. How bad did he want one? See the picture. How sad. Out came the hanky again.

Arman begging

The first person to correctly answer the following question will win a free entry to the $5 Yu-gi-oh tournament on Saturday August 14th: What year did Game Den open for business in Valley Fair Mall? Good luck!

It was hot; hot like a bus rider’s breath emanating from the back seat. It was humid; humid like the steam room at the local gym with a bunch of sweating fatties therein wearing nothing but their skin. It was smelly; smelly like the dumpster behind the local taco joint one day prior to garbage day–this was due to many of you being unfamiliar with showering and deodorant.

Even so, a lot o’ people came, 31 to be exact, biggest turn out ever at Game Den for a Wednesday Night Standard tournament. Josh Jensen bested the field and was the only player to go 5-0 defeating Game Den employee Marc Allen in round 5. I am Marc’s boss. He is my employee. Josh played a bant deck full of Jace and Gid. Marc played a Black/Red deck full of black and red cards.

I very much like the South Park episode that makes fun of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. I’m not sure how that is relevant to this tournament, but I do what I want.

Noticeable by his absence was The Legend, Adam Westwood.

1st Josh Jensen
2nd Bryan Hawley
3rd Marc Allen
4th Jeff McHenry
5th Shawn Meyer

Thanks to everyone. The robust turnout was very delicious.

Arman has an Archlord Krystya that he wants to trade to me, but I don’t want it. Arman can make very realistic little girl poses–it is a talent worthy of an America’s Got Talent appearance. Arman has a foul, potty mouth. I told Arman that I would break his scrawny neck if he banged on my Duel Terminal.

Sneak peak for The Duelist Revolution is this Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. And there was much rejoicing.

Cussing about tie breakers is unbecoming. I can’t do anything about it. You can’t do anything about it. It’s like rain. It just is the way it is.

Don’t be deceived by his outwardly friendly demeanor and his all-American pretty boy next door looks. Game Den employee, Marc, will make you think all is well, but before you know it, you’re slaughtered. I mean, dude, he will rip your lips off and disembowel you with his (huge?) teeth yet all the while maintaining a convivial smile. His MTG game is like his biceps: powerful sturdy. Some say he developed much of his MTG prowess from playing MTG with “The Legend” aka Adam Westwood. Regardless, I might have to hang a sign in the back room that says, “Beware of the Pig.”

So it seems Marc won this one being the only personage to go undefeated at 5-0. Marc defeated Shawn Meyer in round 5 in the battle of the undefeated in a hotly contested match. This makes consecutive weeks that Game Den employees have won Game Den’s Wednesday night MTG tournament. The Legend won last week.

Thank you to everybody who participated.

This is a trial run. If abundant positive posts and/or feedback about this report are not received, it is unlikely my lazy self will do this after every yu-gi-oh tournament.

It was the night before Wednesday, i.e. it was Tuesday night. Yu-gi-oh players numbering 18 blessed Game Den in WVC by appearing for this tournament.

Player and deck: Gerald S(Dark Gaia), Leo N (Lightsworn), Victor N (Samurais), Aaron B (Infernity), Kyle B (Greed), Doug S (Blackwings), Enoch S (Gladiator Beasts), Steve N (XX-Sabers), Travis W (Lightsworn), Arman F (Blackwings), Jacky H (XX-Sabers), Randy C (Lightsworn), Shaun S-G (Junk), Taylor B (Frog FTK), Anthony E (Frog FTK), JJ K (Gladiator Beasts), Fred G (Machina Gadget), Jordan V (Zero Zombies aka zz).

Leo N told me to write that he is a great duelist. Victor N told me to write that he is an average duelist.

Anthony E and Enoch S usually dominate these tournaments. Tonight was no exception…

ROUND ONE

Jacky H won Aaron B
Doug S won Gerald S
Randy C won JJ K
Fred G won Shaun S
Enoch S won Travis W
Steve N won Jordan V
Taylor B won Victor N
Arman F won Kyle B
Due to a enrollment snafu following the receipt of faulty information, two players had byes: Leo N and Anthony E

Round Two

Jordan V won Gerald S
Anthony E won Fred G
Travis W won Kyle B
Arman F won Steve N
Taylor B won Jacky H
Enoch S won Leo N
JJ K won Aaron B
Victor N won Shaun S
Doug S won Randy C

ROUND THREE

Enoch S won Taylor B
Arman F won D Sharma (both players semi-attempted to sort of cheat, but neither really did)
Victor N won Travis W
Gerald S won Kyle B
Anthony E won Steve N
Jacky H won Fred G
JJ K won Jordan V
Leo N won Randy C
Aaron B won Shaun S

ROUND FOUR

Shaun S won Kyle B
Gerald S won Aaron B
Jacky H won Doug S
Anthony E won Taylor B
Enoch S won Arman F
Gerald S won Aaron B
Travis W won Jordan V
Leo N won JJ K
Randy C won Fred G

ROUND FIVE

Enoch S won Anthony E in the championship match
Leo N won Steve N
Victor N won Fred G
Travis W won Gerald S
Jacky H won Arman F

FINAL STANDINGS

1st Enoch S
2nd Anthony E
3rd Leo N
4th Jacky H
5th Arman F

After the tournament a kitty frenzy the likes of which were heretofore unforeseen in these parts ensued. Only one kitty was captured to the chagrin of many. Several were seen weeping like a school girl at recess who falls and skins her knee.

The first person to post a response to this post will receive a free entry into this Saturday’s yu-gi-oh tournament.

Like throbbing stars in distant galaxies yearning to become super novas they waited–waited to be paired. The tension was thick, like blubber on a super fat walrus. Their desire was unsurpassed by any seen in these parts for decades. Finally in the 4th round they played each other. Like two slimy earthworms reproducing on the sidewalk they met and engaged in a mtg frenzy.

That was for my own amusement.

Otherwise it was a relatively normal and uneventful MTG tournament. A delicious turnout of 24 made it expedient to play 5 rounds. Adam Westwood, Game Den employee and MTG player extraordinaire of late (he suffered many ignominious defeats a while ago) defeated Eric Twarog in round 5 to win the tournament as the only undefeated player. Unlike tournaments of months past, only one player used a “Jund” deck.

Like cattle on a Texas prairie, a herd of ne’er before seen mtg players wandered to Game Den for yet another Wednesday night Standard MTG tournament. A few of the old regulars also saw fit to join the fray. The new blood was a welcome sight. The old blood was also a welcome sight. Game Den employees Adam W. and Marc A. enrolled with high hopes. Adam went 3-1–a most noble outing! Marc, however, went 1-2 and dropped whilst uttering many a *&^!@ word. It just goes to show you–pretty boys should stay home, preen and flex in a mirror instead of playing magic.

Top finishers:

1st- Anthony Bentle
2nd John Buchanan
3rd Jeff McHenry
4th Adam Westwood
5th Andy Sartor
6th Emir Mujagic

Thanks to all participants. It was sweet and endearing of you to come to our tournament.
